With the trend shifting towards clean energy, natural gas is currently widely used worldwide and distributed in three forms. Low-pressure natural gas (low-pressure gas) is transported through pipelines to nearby consumption points, compressed natural gas (CNG) with high pressure is transported by specialized tankers to distant consumption points, and liquefied natural gas (LNG) is commercially transported between countries and regions via maritime vessels.
Asia is the largest consumer of LNG, accounting for about three-quarters of the global LNG demand, with Japan and China being the largest importers. Conversely, the United States, Qatar, Russia, and Australia are the world's largest LNG exporters. Indonesia and Malaysia are the leading natural gas suppliers in Southeast Asia as well as in Asia and globally.
Currently, Vietnam has been self-sufficient in natural gas supply from domestic gas fields, distributed as low-pressure gas and CNG. However, in the second half of 2023, Vietnam will import LNG to compensate for the declining and insufficient domestic gas supply, especially in the Southeast region. Gas South is one of the two companies providing CNG in the country which is investing in transportation and LNG supply systems, ready to distribute once there is imported LNG supply.
1. About Southern Gas Trading Joint Stock Company - Gas South
Gas South was established in 2000 as the division of PetroVietnam Southern Gas Trading Company of PetroVietnam Gas Joint Stock Corporation (PV Gas). In 2006, this division merged with the PetroVietnam Southern Gas Trading Company and LPG Sales Division of Petroleum Trading Joint Stock Company (Petechim) to establish Gas South. Subsequently, Gas South was transformed from a wholly state-owned enterprise into a shareholding company in the same year and was listed on the Hanoi Stock Exchange (HNX) in 2007.
