The goal is not only to optimize products, services, management, and operations, aiming for sustainable development, but also to build trust with partners, customers, and shareholders amidst unpredictable challenges. The following discussion with Mr. Nguyễn Ngọc Luận – Member of the Board of Directors – General Director of Gas South, provides a clearer perspective on how the company proactively positions itself: listening to energy transition trends, thoroughly preparing to seize opportunities from LNG, enhancing the application of digital technology in the supply chain, along with positive contributions to the community and the environment.
– In the context of global economic challenges, with Vietnam continuing to face numerous difficulties and challenges, parallelly high competitive gas business environment, what solutions has Gas South implemented to adapt and maintain its market position?
Mr. Nguyễn Ngọc Luận – Member of the Board of Directors – General Director of Gas South: We have proactively anticipating Vietnam's energy transition to LNG usage, since 2020, Gas South has initiated research projects to supply LNG. Currently, Gas South is one of the few enterprises capable of simultaneously supplying the trio of products: LNG, CNG, and LPG, serving various uses from residential, industrial to transportation sectors.
In addition to product diversification, Gas South is also promoting comprehensive digital transformation to enhance the efficiency of management and operational activities in production and business.
– LNG is a widely used and commercialized fuel globally; however, it remains relatively new in Vietnam. How does Gas South assess the potential of LNG products, and what specific plans does it make to develop LNG?
– Compared to traditional fuels like coal and oil, LNG and CNG have superior advantages: they are cleaner, emit lower emissions, have stable supply sources, high thermal efficiency, extend the lifespan of equipment, and reduce maintenance and environmental treatment costs. When compared to CNG, LNG is even more advantageous in terms of quality and the ability to reduce volume by 2.5-3 times, thereby increasing storage capacity and enabling longer-distance transportation with significantly reduced transportation costs. Therefore, LNG is considered a suitable fuel for industrial production during the transition to green, clean fuels in Vietnam.
Currently, Vietnam is a destination for many foreign investors with industrial manufacturing plants requiring low-emission fuels like LNG; additionally, domestic natural gas supplies are declining, necessitating LNG imports to compensate for shortages. All these factors will drive the demand for LNG usage to increase in the near future.
Gas South has been installing LNG supply systems at existing customer stations, ensuring continuous gas supply; simultaneously, we are enhancing engagement with potential new customers and widely promoting our reputable products and services across various media channels.
– Alongside CNG and LNG, LPG is one of Gas South's three main products. Given the highly competitive LPG market, what strategies and solutions has Gas South implemented to maintain its position and ensure business effectiveness?
– For many consecutive years, Gas South has maintained its leading position in supplying residential LPG in the southern region with a diverse range of cylinders (6kg/12kg/20kg/45kg) and proudly, our products have been voted as high-quality Vietnamese goods by consumers. This achievement is attributed to Gas South's extensive distribution system, including storage facilities and LPG filling stations spanning from Cà Mau to Nghệ An, along with owning the largest gas cylinder manufacturing and refurbishment plant in Vietnam. This complete supply chain has empowered Gas South to be proactive and resilient in a highly competitive and volatile market.
Moreover, Gas South always emphasizes diversifying suppliers, closely monitoring market situations both domestically and internationally to proactively and flexibly manage supply sources, and establishing reasonable pricing policies.
– With the increasing number of gas suppliers in the domestic market, what sets Gas South apart from its competitors?
– Gas South is among the few enterprises capable of simultaneously providing all three products: LPG, CNG, and LNG directly to consumers, along with other advantages such as flexible, comprehensive or optional services, an extensive distribution network, equipment systems meeting national and international standards, and a dedicated, experienced, highly specialized workforce. In Ho Chi Minh City, GAS SOUTH is the sole provider of CNG for over 500 CNG-powered buses in the area.
With a streamlined, centralized management system, customers approaching Gas South will receive convenient and prompt consultation, from overall to specific, on which type of fuel is most suitable.
Moreover, Gas South is promoting digital transformation in managing and operating production and business activities. In the residential LPG business segment, we have digitized gas cylinders to support effective management and traceability of LPG cylinders, utilizing AI to eliminate expired cylinders circulating in the market. Additionally, we are developing the "LPG Cylinder Sales Support Solution" to assist partners in order management, monitoring delivery and receipt of goods, and strengthening the connection between Gas South and customers.
– What social and environmental activities does Gas South engage in?
– Gas South always focuses on community support activities by working additional days to fund social welfare programs. Besides contributing to the PetroVietnam Mutual Assistance Fund, in recent years, the company has independently carried out many activities, though modest, but meaningful, such as building charity houses, libraries, awarding scholarships to underprivileged students through the "Cặp lá yêu thương" program, gifting to the elderly living alone, disabled children, and disadvantaged families in operational areas. Additionally, the company contributes to disease prevention funds, supports people affected by natural disasters, and donates clothes and school supplies.
In 2024, Gas South's notable activity was sponsoring the construction of the KH5 canal bridge in Gò Quao district, Kiên Giang province. This construction holds significant importance, not only improving transportation and goods movement but also opening up opportunities for residents in Gò Quao town and Thủy Liễu commune to integrate smoothly into the socio-economic development of the district.
In terms of environmental impact, the company has made notable strides by not only significantly reducing paper and ink consumption through the transition to digital offices but also by installing rooftop solar panels since 2020.
