That is shared by Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Luan - General Director of Southern Gas Trading Joint Stock Company (Gas South) as one of the pioneering enterprises providing clean fuel (CNG gas) to promote the use of clean energy, develop green economy, especially "greening" the transportation system.
CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) is compressed natural gas, a type of methane stored at high pressure. CNG does not release many toxic gases such as NO, CO, and SO2 when burned, and almost no dust is generated, so the level of impact on the environment is less, minimizing greenhouse effects that affect the environment. Not only that, the current price of CNG is lower than that of gasoline, accounting for only 1/200 of the volume of natural gas in normal conditions, and convenient to transport, especially in gasoline prices with supply fluctuating complicatedly in recent years. With these outstanding properties, CNG gas is an ideal fuel to use as an alternative to gasoline and oil and is considered a green material, a future usage trend.
Under the pressure of climate change, green transport, using clean CNG fuel to replace gasoline to reduce emissions and noise partially, is an inevitable trend in many countries, including Vietnam.
Catching up with the trend, in 2009, Gas South was one of the pioneers in investing and bringing CNG compressed natural gas products into the market, serving the needs of using it as fuel for industrial parks and public transport.
After over 14 years of providing clean CNG fuel for vehicles, especially buses, Gas South increasingly asserts its position with a 40% market share of CNG supply in the South. Gas South's total number of CNG clean fuel buses is more than 500 in HCMC and more than 100 in HCMC. Hanoi.
According to the General Director of Gas South Nguyen Ngoc Luan, the introduction of public transport vehicles running on CNG gas to protect the environment has been successfully applied. Still, for widespread application, it is necessary to add a support mechanism to encourage many units to use this type of fuel and this line of environmentally friendly means of transport.
General Director of Gas South Nguyen Ngoc Luan said that the economic and environmental benefits of CNG buses are apparent. However, currently, the number of buses in Ho Chi Minh City using CNG is still a little due to limited CNG filling points when in the city, there are only 3 CNG filling stations for buses with a capacity of 180 buses/day. The system of CNG fuel stations is too small, so it is not convenient for refueling; in addition, the charging time for a vehicle is relatively long, so the waiting time to refuel the car affects the operation, making businesses concerned about converting vehicles using this fuel source. In addition, the legal procedures to implement the project must go through many standards, appraisals, and approvals from many different departments, making businesses hesitant about the investment problem.
To overcome the above difficulties, the General Director of Gas South said that it is necessary to "push" from the policies of the authorities at all levels to encourage businesses and individuals to make the switch to using green fuel sources to "green" the public transport system in the whole city. Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Luan wants the authorities to consider and create conditions for installing CNG filling stations at convenient locations in the city. At the same time, streamline legal procedures in converting fuel use by businesses and individuals.
"If we have many CNG filling stations, it will create favorable conditions for businesses and individuals to switch to using clean fuel because it is both clean and economical and easy to convert," Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Luan emphasized.
Gas South has been accompanying the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City on the journey to contribute to preserving the environment, building and "greening" the city's public transport system. However, to realize the green transport system in the future, the General Director of Gas South said that the city needs a more specific roadmap with supporting mechanisms and policies as leverage for businesses in general and for Gas South to actively participate in the conversion and use of green, economical and environmentally friendly fuels.
Gas South has affirmed the company's "green" and sustainable operating motto when all of Gas South's production and business activities use green and environmentally friendly fuels with liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), compressed natural gas (CNG), and, in the future will use liquefied natural gas (LNG). In addition, Gas South has also invested in installing two rooftop solar power systems, helping to save production costs with natural energy sources. At the same time, a part of unused electricity has been connected to the standard grid to be put into commercial operation, contributing to reducing the pressure on the power supply for the national power system.
