Specifically, according to data from the Ministry of Finance, compared to countries in the region – particularly those sharing borders with Vietnam (China, Laos, Cambodia) – the price of A92 gasoline in Vietnam is still lower by VND 695/liter to VND 6,782/liter. Diesel prices are also lower, ranging from VND 1,101/liter to VND 3,981/liter.
The Ministry of Finance also explained that the increase in fuel prices on August 29 was unavoidable due to rising global oil prices. On average over the past 20 days (from August 9–28, 2009), global fuel prices increased by 2.3% to 4.3% compared with the previous 20-day period.
