This serves as a premise for the two parties to reach a long-term sales agreement, under which PV Gas will supply imported LNG to Hiep Phuoc Power Plant with a volume of about 600 million m³/year for 20 years.
Hiep Phuoc Power Plant is also one of the first customers to receive natural gas from imported LNG for power generation, opening up new prospects not only for the two partners but also for future customers as well as the development of Vietnam’s gas industry.
The gas pipeline supplying Hiep Phuoc Power Plant has already been in operation since October 2009. Currently, the plant is planning to expand, increasing its generating capacity by 750 MW.
This marks an important step for PV Gas in developing a clean natural gas market to meet the development needs of Ho Chi Minh City, contributing to power generation growth in particular and ensuring national energy security in general.
To secure gas supply for Hiep Phuoc Power Plant, PetroVietnam Gas (PV Gas) constructed the Phu My – Ho Chi Minh City gas pipeline. This project was recognized by the Government in 2006 as a critical national work, serving one of PV Gas’s strategic objectives to 2015 with orientation to 2025: supplying gas to power plants in the southern region, including Nhon Trach Power Plant and Hiep Phuoc Power Plant.
