As part of its fire prevention and firefighting plan, on May 6, 2016, PV Gas South Can Tho, in coordination with the Fire Prevention and Fighting Police of Can Tho City and several local units, organized a multi-force drill on fire response, chemical incidents, oil spill response, and port security at the LPG Storage and Filling Station in Can Tho (Address: Lots II.5, II.6, Tra Noc II Industrial Zone, Phuoc Thoi Ward, O Mon District, Can Tho City).
The main objective of this drill was to help the on-site firefighting forces, operational staff at the Storage, and local authorities improve fire safety awareness; master the coordination process and firefighting procedures among forces; practice proficient use of firefighting equipment; enhance evacuation skills in case of fire or explosion; and strengthen response capabilities in chemical or oil spill incidents.
The simulated scenario involved a fire outbreak at the LPG filling area, caused by violations of fire safety regulations during production. Upon detecting the fire, the Can Tho Branch Emergency Response Command mobilized the on-site firefighting team to act under the “four on-the-spot” principle and notified the professional firefighting force via hotline 114. However, the fire spread rapidly and became uncontrollable by the in-house team.
Minutes later, under the direction of Can Tho City Fire Police, professional firefighting forces, local authorities, and neighboring units deployed 8 fire trucks and dozens of officers to the scene. At that time, the fire had flared up intensely, prompting the reconnaissance team to report and initiate tactical operations.
Simultaneously, other teams deployed water streams to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading. Thanks to active professional efforts, the fire was completely extinguished within about 10 minutes, with no casualties or property damage.
After the drill, the organizing committee held a review meeting. At the session, representatives of the Can Tho Fire Police highly appreciated the preparation and execution of the exercise at the Branch. Firefighting and chemical/oil spill response remain one of PV Gas South’s top priorities, with consistent investment to ensure the highest level of safety for human lives, property, and the environment.
