According to Mr. Thang, the gas import tax has remained at 5% for quite a long time, since the imported gas price was over USD 350/ton and is now above USD 700/ton.
Meanwhile, domestically produced gas still has to bear the same 5% import tax, which means that consumers have to pay an additional VND 8,000 for each gas cylinder. Mr. Thang stated that a meeting with the association’s leaders will be organized regarding this issue, and a petition will be sent to the authorities.
As of March 1, most gas trading companies had increased the price by VND 4,000 per 12kg cylinder, except for VT Gas which raised it by VND 3,000 per cylinder. This increase has pushed the domestic retail price to as high as VND 275,000 per 12kg cylinder — the highest level ever recorded.
