On the afternoon of August 17, U.S. light sweet crude for September delivery fell 1.01 USD to 66.5 USD/barrel, while North Sea Brent crude for October 2009 delivery dropped 79 cents to 70.65 USD/barrel.
Thus, crude oil prices continued their downward trend after preliminary data from the University of Michigan showed that the U.S. consumer confidence index fell 6.6 points to 63.2 in August 2009.
